Donegan-Ryan June-July Blog

It has been a busy few months for all at Donegan Ryan Eventing as you can see all the team are very tired especially our mascots, Teddy and Keano.

As well as the eventing duties, Mike is also trying his hand in the show jumping arena. He hasn’t done too bad with some good results in the Munster Grand Prix league and of course at the inaugural jumping in the city event at Limerick and the final in Shelbourne Park.

On the eventing circuit we are just as busy with both Mike and Trish in full swing. The team recently took the young horses to Grove and they all did really well. We are really excited about our younger prospects. In July we were told found out that Michael Ryan was named on the long list of riders for the Rio 2016 squad with Trish. Both will be training hard! Mike also got Irish Field Star of the month following his excellent result at Badminton.

We had a lovely visit from Carbery Pony Club and it was great to chat to them about our pony club experiences and our eventing careers. We hope that we inspired them!

They all had a good look around the yard and visited our top horses, who were taking a break in the paddocks. Hi Ho took use the opportunity to have his photo moment!

In Kilguilkey International, Michael took the lead early in the Pegus Horse Feed CIC** aboard ‘Dunlough Striker. Just 4.4 pen on the cross country phase wasn’t enough to close the gap between himself and Louise Bloomer who was riding Hollybrook Sky HIgh. With Mike finishing on a final score of 43.20 and Bloomer on 48.6, he took the honours.

We were delighted that the Eventing Ireland National Championships were on our doorstep in Ballindenisk. It was a great event and we came home with plenty of results. In the Horse First CNC3* Trish finished fourth with Tullineaskey Hi Ho and fifth with Dunrath Eclipse. Mike won the TRI Equestrian EI100 with Beechfields Gold Digga. It was another good run.

We are looking ahead now to Camphire International. Mike and Trish will have their hands full as both young and the more experienced horses will be in action.
