At Bucas we develop all of our products with the well being of horses and horse owners in mind. It is our belief that products designed this way and manufactured to the highest quality standards will always prove to be the right choice in the short as well as the long term.

HISTORY

Bucas design, create and make high performance horse blankets and related equestrian products.

Since 1981, when Bucas was founded in Cork, Ireland we have merged the great Irish equestrian tradition with the latest technical developments and experience from other industries, countries and markets.  This has resulted in the development of a wide range of highly innovative and technically advanced products. From the beginning we have exported more than 90% of our products to markets around the world.

In 1982, we produced the first high performance water resistant turnout rug. This was followed by the first fully waterproof and breathable rugs by the end of the eighties. We have also perfected the "Stay-Dry" principle of using wicking linings that transport sweat and moisture away from the horse while the inside of the lining remains dry.

In the 1990s we developed the first truly light weight fully waterproof and breathable turnout for use at higher temperatures than ordinary turnout rugs. We also introduced sun reflective rugs and anti-bacterial linings.

In 2000 we introduced the revolutionary Buzz-Off full body fly and UV protection rug. The outstanding overall performance and durability of this product is reflected in the strong customer approval and satisfaction.

Bucas is the name which is synonymous with technical equine rugs and for good reason too! We pride ourselves in creating a collection of technical horse rugs and blankets to ensure that your horse is suitably dressed no matter what the weather or occasion throws at you!

THE INTELLIGENT CHOICE

Because we know that the weathermen never get it 100% right our intelligent turnout rugs boast breathable properties together with Stay-dry linings. So, should the weather change while your horse is turned out, there’s no need to worry about changing rugs as these rugs work over a greater temperature range than ordinary rugs.

Our turnout rugs are helpfully labelled with “temperature gauges” instead of the traditional weight system – why? Well, because we have developed highly technical fabrics that not only offer maximum performance in terms of insulation and breathability but we have managed to do this without bulk, therefore they naturally weigh less than a standard rug and perform at a wider range of temperatures than other rugs on the market. With Bucas, the weight of the rug is considerably less – yet the warmth rating is much more than expected for such a lightweight blanket. The benefits of our unique, wicking Stay-dry materials have also been applied to stable rugs, coolers and sweat rugs. The peace of mind resulting from knowing that your horse is ensured the best comfort at all times is invaluable.
